Lots and lots of anchor charts... and rain!

I am on an anchor chart kick lately... last year I did some, especially toward the end of the year with reading... but now I'm branching out from reading into math and writing. More on that in a minute... Today was a typical Monday... rainy, Fall chill in the air. I actually woke up early... that never happens. I am not a morning person. Not by a long shot. I set my alarm for 6 am but hit the snooze button numerous times... it's usually after 7 when I finally jolt awake and run around like a…

Writing Workshop Series: Post #4 - Friendly Letters

In much the same way as my reading workshop, I begin writing workshop with a foundational unit on sentences and paragraphs. That's right! Before students are ready to begin writing various genres, they must have those basics down....how to write complete sentences and simple paragraphs. Let's face it, learning to write complete sentences is not that fun, so I like to incorporate lots of activities to help teach this concept besides just sitting and writing - we play games, use interactive…

The Teacher Bag - Hop in and fill your teacher bag with ideas.

Froggy Mail is in full working order this week. We are a k-8 school and during testing our little first graders run a school wide post office. It is such a fun community activity. Kids in all grades write letters to friends, big/little buddies, brothers/sisters and staff. Mail is dropped into our Froggy mailbox (it is taken out of storage for this two week project). The Postmasters (a.k.a. the first grade teachers) empty this daily so the postal workers (first graders) can process this mail…

I'm Here, I'm Here! The whistle has not been blown...nope, the whistle my colleagues provided as a practical joke {On me - I deserve it, one day I'll tell you the poop story} for my hubby has not been blown...not even once. Why? Because I didn't give it to him, that's why. Do you think I'm crazy?!? Really, he's been a wonderful patient and I've gladly been helping him out. Persuasive letters with rubric Freebie - Sarah's Teaching Snippets

In years past, to teach persuasive writing, I’ve had kids write letters to their parents trying to convince them to buy a pet. I’m thinking of doing this again within the next couple of weeks. I spruced up my worksheet with some frames and KPM doodles clip art. I thought I’d share it with you ... Read More about Persuasive letters with rubric Freebie
