Ludlow Castle, Shropshire, England. Birthplace of Joan de Geneville. (1265) She was the 2nd Baroness Geneville and Countess of March. Wife of the infamous Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March and lover of Isabella of France (Queen Consort of England - aka: "The She-Wolf of France"), probable murderer of King Edward II of England. Joan was one of the wealthiest & most eligible heiresses in the Welsh Marches with estates that included Ludlow Castle and the town of Ludlow. My 20th GGP.
(9) Louis lX also called st.louis 1214-1270 the only king of france to be canonised..the most popular of capetian monarchs he led th 7th crusade to the holy land and died on another at Tunisia....his body was brought back to france via the alps italy lyon and cluny and crowds gathered and knelt as the procession passed...his mother blanche had watched over his education and had selected his wife Margaret of provence who she became intensely jealous of....
Gold finger-ring that belonged to Æthelswith (855-889), the queen of Mercia, daughter of Æthelwulf, and sister of Alfred the Great (my ancestor). The ring was found in 1991 when a farmer was plowing in Northeastern England. Inscription inside: Queen Æthelswith. Probably 853-874 CE. Aberford, West Yorkshire. British Museum.
Joan Beaufort, Countess of Westmoreland Second wife of Ralph de Neville, 1st Earl of Westmoreland. Mother of Anne and Cecily Neville along with 12 others. Joan was the legitimate daughter of John of Gaunt and Katherine Swynford. She was also the Grandmother of Richard Neville 'the Kingmaker', 16th Earl of Warwick.
