Body Guard (Brigandine)
c. 1500-1525 linen, gold velvet, steel, and brass (22 3/16 x 18 11/16 in., 2.5 kg) "The brigandine is a light, vestlike body defense popular with both knights and infantry from the 1400s through about 1550. It is constructed of multiple small plates attached to a cloth covering. Finer examples, like this one, are faced in velvet or fabric made of gold thread. The lightweight brigandine provided protection from the weather, and was extremely flexible." Cleveland Museum of Art 1921.1250

The Costumes of 'The Vikings'
The iron work is all handmade by Bergin's crack metal team in Wales, where the series is shot on location and in studio. "It's metal, the real thing, done by a very talented members of my team. People like Townsend Feeney add all this additional texture for me. They go to the back of the building and hammer the pattern of the cast iron staircase into a Viking symbol. The level of detail they can achieve is astonishing."
