Golas or Indian version of Shaved Ice are a speciality of Chowpatty Beach in Mumbai. Gola wallahs (crushed-ice sellers) have vast blocks of ice and bottles of brightly coloured fruity syrups! Popular flavours include kala khatta (my favorite ) made from a dark blackberry-like fruit; lime and salt; and Raw Mango . The gola wallah shaves ice off the block then packs it by hand onto a wooden stick. Syrup is poured all over so that it seeps deliciously into the ice! A must have when you visit Mum
