Bring Nature Home
These woodlands are lovely, dark and deep, and full of deer that sleep by day and eat in early morning and evening. Woodlands are not true forests, but should allow patches of sunlight for diverse herbaceous vegetation made up of forbs and grasses at ground level.
Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus
Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS, ... no childlike faith, no poetry, no romance ...
Jolly Old St. Nicholas
Jolly old St.Nicholas Lean your ear this way Don't you tell a single soul What I'm going to say Christmas Eve is coming soon Now, you dear old man Whisper what you'll bring to me Tell me if you can... Johnny wants a pair of skates; Susy wants a dolly Nellie wants a story book... As for me, my little brain Isn't very bright; Choose for me, dear Santa Claus, What you think is right.
Santa's new hat
The missus knit Santa a new hat from the best woolen yarn to wear to bed when the wind outside howls and covers aren't enough to keep one warm.
Deep Winter
"Do you hear the snow against the window-panes, Kitty?“ Alice said. "...I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, 'Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.' " Lewis Carroll, Alice through the Looking Glass
Deep Winter
I say the darkest days and deepest winters make for the loveliest conversation. “[As] my old grandmother always used to say, Summer friends will melt away like summer snows, but winter friends are friends forever.” George R.R. Martin
Flurries 18" Hooked Wool Pillow
Oh, Christmas Tree! I like the lyrics in German as well as English.
Snowshoes
I recall reading Jack London's The Call of the Wild, a novel, set in the Yukon, about a wondrous dog named Buck. Buck is stolen from his home in California and sold into service as a sled dog in Alaska. In the cold and harsh land, he becomes wilder by degrees, forced to fight to survive, and, by the end of the story, sheds domesticity and relies on instinct to emerge as a leader in the wild. Tough times make you tougher.
Peace
Peace in the 60s takes on a new meaning for aging "flower children". Remember the good old days, when a Christmas tree was a trip with a saw to the forest in a Volkswagen van:)
Let it snow!
The weather outside is delightful. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! says the snowman.
