For babies allergic to cow's milk, the Frisian milk sheep is a good alternative. I was raised on sheep's milk.
Okay, I admit: when @Melissa Ragan first told me where lanolin comes from, I kinda grossed out. But hey, it's derived in an animal-friendly way, and has more uses then just for sore nips! I heavily depended on lanolin for the first few postpartum months to heal my dry lips. After all, it's found in high-end lipsticks, and a common moisturizing ingredient in lotions and soaps. It can also be used to treat diaper rash, heal dry cuticles, and help minor cuts, burns, and even eczema!
But you might ask, is it OK 'raising goats and sheep together'? Answer is YES in some cases, especially if you raise a few number of goats and sheep together. But a big NO, if you raise them for commercial production purpose.
