Art Deco pair of armchairs Constructed in silky oak and covered in a faux suede fabric Attributed to Serge Chermayeff Waring & Gillow Circa 1920s Height 82cm. Width 78cm. Depth 80cm. Seat Height 40cm Towards the end of the 1920s Waring & Gillow opened a new experimental modern art department. Serge Chermayeff was enlisted as Director partnering with the French based designer Paul Follot, head of Waring & Gillow, Paris. Together they attempted to bring a progressive Art Deco edge to the company. In 1928 they opened a large exhibition ‘Modern Art In Decoration and Furnishing’ to London. It consisted of 68 decorated and furnished rooms situated one the 4th and 5th floors of the Oxford Street building (currently Selfridges).
