UnderGround Downspout Kit
HOW DO UNDERGROUND DOWNSPOUTS WORK?
UnderGround Downspouts run maintenance free year-round to properly manage roof water runoff around your foundation. Keeping water away from your home’s foundation is a step in preventing a wet basement. Plus, they blend right into your landscaping and eliminate those annoying downspouts laying across your lawn.
Debris filter removes bulk. As water and debris flow from the gutter, debris is filter out. This allows only water to enter the underground system. Water flows to pot. Water flows through underground pipe, entering the downspout pot. Pot releases water. As the pot fills with water lid raises to release water. If pot doesn’t fill, water drain from the bottom of the pot.
HOW TO INSTALL
Always call before you dig.US residence call the national call-before-you-dig number 811 a few days before you plan to install. Someone will be out to mark all your utility lines for your safety when digging.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
4-inch thinwall PVC Pipe (10ft)
90-degree PVC elbow
Shovel & Gravel
Select a location at least 8 feet out from the downspout and dig a circular hole for the bubbler pop-up that is 12 inches wide by 10 inches deep. Fill the bottom of bubbler pop-up hole with 2 inches of gravel making sure the top of the greenlid will be flush with the dirt line wheninstalled.
Scoop out a shallow trench from the downspout to the bubbler pop-up hole. For an 8-foot pipe, the trench should start approximately 4 inches deep and end at approximately 8 inches deep. PRO TIP– Pile dirt on a large tarp to make dirt removal clean and easy.
Fit one end of the PVC pipe into the 90-degree elbow and the other end into the side of the bubbler pop-up. Set into place and adjust the pitch of the pipe as needed. The top of green lid shouldbe flush with dirt line.
Mark on your downspout where you’dlike the top of the debris filter to beinstalled – usually between 10 inches to 20 inches above the dirt. Cut your downspout with a tin snips at a 45-degree angle.
Hold debris filter under downspout and measure the length of PVC pipe needed to connect filter to elbow. Cut pipe to size and connect one end into the elbow and the other into debris filter. PRO TIP– Spray paint exposed PVC pipe to match debris filter or exterior.
Back fill the trench around PVC pipe and bubbler pop-up with dirt and tamp down. Return sod or add grass seeds and you’re finished!
WORKS WITH ANY STYLE OR SIZE DOWNSPOUT
The universal debris filter is designed to accommodate any downspout. No special fittings or connectors needed. Debris filter simply rests below downspout and water free falls into the angled grate.
WORKS YEAR ROUND FROM FREEZE TO THAW
For those living an a cold climate(like us here in Minnesota!), the debris filter becomes the ice guard during the winter. Water free falls into the debris filter beneath the downspout creating an ice break. Unlike other products that connect directly onto the downspout, this ice break prevents ice build up in downspout that could reach roof line and create damage.
CAN MOW RIGHT OVER THEM
No need to move those annoying downspouts out of the way each time you mow. Simply mow right over them! The rugged, solid green lid can withstand the weight of a riding lawnmower.
SOLID LID KEEPS GRASS CLIPPINGS OUT
The solid, green lid keeps out grass clippings that can clog other underground systems with grate openings.
GREEN LID BLEND INTO LAWN
You’ll barely notice they’re there.
The self cleaning system runs maintenance free year round. Install once and you’re done! Bonus, you’ll never trip over a downspout laying across your lawn again!
