At it's debut in 1956, the Continental Mark II was the most expensive production car built in America. Its $10,400 list price made it almost twice as expensive as a Lincoln. Despite that, Ford claimed it lost money on every car built. The Continental was a whole new division, positioned atop Ford’s family of brands. Ford built 2,996 Mark IIs between June 1955 & May 1957(when production ceased). Ford did not classify the Mark IIs by model year, just a single, multi-year model run.
