At Urnes Stave Church, Norway, Viking Age animal art meets Christian architecture..Urnes stavkirke (or stavkyrkje), the oldest Stave Church in Norway, stands at Ornes farm on Lustrafjord in Luster municipality, Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The church was built around 1135 AD and links Christian architecture with animal-ornamentation of the Viking Age. In 1979, Urnes Stave Church was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Bed post from the Gokstad Viking ship burial. A man in his forties was sent on his last jouney in a burial chamber aboard the Gokstad ship. He was a Viking chieftain who had lived a hard life. Around the year 900, he met a dramatic and violent death. His family gave him a fine burial with many grave gifts, including 12 horses. There were also pictures of stallions on the chieftain´s bed.
