Imperial Gatchina Palace Egg – Fabergé, 1901; workmaster, Mikhail Perkhin; crafted from gold, opalescent white enamel, silver-gilt, portrait diamonds, rock crystal, and seed pearls; 4 15/16 x 3 9/16 in. (12.5 x 9.1 cm); the egg opens to reveal the surprise a scaled model gold replica of the palace at Gatchina, the Dowager Empress's principal winter residence outside Saint Petersburg. It is one of two imperial Easter eggs held in the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.
