The Brocken spectre. The "spectre" appears when the observer's back is to the sun, and he or she is looking down from a ridge or peak into mist or fog. The light projects their shadow forward through the mist casting a seemingly enormous ghostly shadow.
The Chartreuse Mountains (massif de la Chartreuse) is a mountain range in southeastern France, stretching to the north from the city of to the Lac du Bourget. It is the southernmost range in the Jura Mountains and belongs to the French Prealps.
