Maiko is an apprentice geisha in western Japan, especially Kyoto. Their jobs consist of performing songs, dances, and playing the shamisen (three-stringed Japanese instrument) for visitors during feasts. Maiko are usually aged 15 to 20 years.
In Japanese mythology, Izanami-no-Mikoto, meaning "she who invites" is a Goddess of both Creation and Death, as well as the former wife of the God Izanagi-no-Mikoto. She is also referred to as Izanami-no-kami.
