Óbidos , Portugal - We enjoyed a week of bicycling beautiful Portugal. The bright white, we learned, is a white marble whitewash, applied almost every year. The bright blue and gold trim colors are to keep out bad spirits. As well, they designate your station: blue for commoner, gold for nobility, or higher station. Once we knew this, we saw Portugal with new eyes. @Barbara Wirth Art believes with enlightenment comes understanding, and is grateful.
