Carvins Cove Natural Reserve is the second largest municipal park in the nation. It holds a major water source within its acres and overflowing recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, fishing, and boat rentals.
The name ‘Shenandoah’—a native word meaning ‘daughter of the stars’—has long been attached to the mountainous region in western Virginia; to the fertile, valley west of it; and to the lazy river that flows between them to the Potomac.
The Dragon’s Tooth is an aptly named rock monolith of Tuscarora quartzite straddling Roanoke and Craig Counties just west of Catawba, VA. It stands out on it’s own at the top of Cove Mountain. It's as popular a hike as its’ nearby neighbor, McAfee's Knob.
