Grand Hotel, 1932

Grand Hotel, 1932 - All I can say is 'Wow" to this exceptional cast! The story is a bit typical, but the acting is great!

Two British families (one aristocratic, one of working-class stock) from 1900 thru 1930. In a strong Hollywoodian year (1933) Cavalcade managed to collect the Oscar for best picture. Dated, boring, it didn't deserve the honour. The acting is not especially noteworthy. Interesting in its depiction of the old Edwardian society trying to adjust to the times, not quite managing it. I found it hard to sit through, although I rather enjoyed the re-staging of Noel Coward's play (London, 1995)

A cavalcade of English life from New Year's Eve 1899 until 1933 seen through the eyes of well-to-do Londoners Jane and Robert Marryot.

Wuthering Heights 1939.jpg. My favorite scene. Heath cliff and Kathy as children at the mour cliffs among the heather. Role playing he as a Persian king and her his queen, and she tells him, "Heathcliff let's stay here forever, never leave this place. You will be my king and I your queen. Promise me Heathcliff."

You Can't Take It with You (1938) Nutty family, Lionel Barrymore and really funny dialogue like Grandpa Martin Vanderhof: "Lincoln said, "With malice toward none, with charity to all." Nowadays they say, "Think the way I do or I'll bomb the daylights outta you."

You Can't Take It with You (1938)

Directed by Frank Capra. With Jean Arthur, James Stewart, Lionel Barrymore, Edward Arnold. A man from a family of rich snobs becomes engaged to a woman from a good-natured but decidedly eccentric family.
