Mary's Way of the Cross ~~ At the cross her station keeping, Stood the mournful Mother weeping, Close to Jesus to the last. ~ Through her heart, His sorrow sharing, All His bitter anguish bearing, Now at length the sword had pass'd. ~ Oh, how sad and sore distress'd Was that Mother highly blest Of the sole-begotten One! ~ Christ above in torment hangs; She beneath beholds the pangs Of her dying glorious Son.
The Angel of the Lord appeared unto Mary, and she conceived of the Holy Spirit. "I am the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to Thy Word." The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. When praying the Rosary, think of this image: proceed from Father, Son, and Holy Spirit through Mary and back again, which is the rhythm that underpins meditating on the Rosary: to pray the Rosary is to get keyed into the Incarnation.
