The barouche was a carriage for the man of means. Mrs. Elton in Emma drops the fact that her brother owns a barouche into every conversation. The barouche was a large, 4-passenger carriage pulled by 4 horses. It had a folding hood that could be raised to cover two of the passengers. This feature made it popular as a summer carriage.

Kereta Kangjeng Kyai Garudayaksa is the name of the royal carriage belongs to Yogyakarta palace. The carriage is drawn by eight horses. It was manufactured in Netherlands in 1867, as ordered by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VI.    Since was made, the carriage was only used a few times.  Sultan HB IX in 1940 and was last used at the coronation of HB X in 1989. Currently the carriage is stored at the carriages museum of Yogyakarta palace.
