Day dress (probably), ca. 1875-80. Silk taffeta. Bodice is dusty rose; skirt is muted goldenrod. Pleated ruffles show through openings of tabbed bodice borders. Bodice is hand-embroidered with silk floss flowers. It closes in front with metal buttons. Small breast pocket on left side and two large pink satin bows on other side. Lined with ivory taffeta. Skirt is straight in front with cords inside to pull the fullness to the back over the bustle. Vintage Textile via web.archive

Skirt has inner gauged panel at back for fullness; trained; lower portion trimmed w/black velvet; silk dust ruffle w/more layers of pink chiffon at hem. Smithsonian Museum of American History

1861 dress originally owned by Caroline Lucinda Bolles, American. Hand-stitched and machine-stitched silk with cotton lining and cashmere or mohair plush and silk cording. Bodice: Metal boning, brass hooks and eyes, silk tassels, and faux mother of pearl enameled metal buttons.
