Penny loafers.  We put a dime in ours and polished it. So you had a dime for a phone call or to get a drink.

Penny loafers got very popular with young people in America in and Pennies were put in the cut out. Some girls put a dime in their penny loafers, just in case they might need it to make a phone call when they were away from home.

saddle shoes...had a few pairs in elementary school. One pair I scuffed the heck out of on purpose, so I could get new shoes. Dad took me to the shoe store, and got me a new pair...of Saddle shoes!

All the cool kids went roller skating on Friday nights.  And the really cool kids did 'couples skate'.
