Huaraz - Huascaran
Huaraz: the Capital of the Andinismo Huaraz is known as the capital of mountaineering in South America. The Spanish founded Huaraz in 1574 and at the time of independence it was named a “noble and generous city” by Simon Bolivar. Located in the central part of northern Peru, about 420 km north of Lima, at an altitude of 3052 meters (10,013 feet) Huaraz sits in the enviable Andean valley called the “Callejon de Huaylas” , surrounded by the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Negra.
