Village of Pinecrest : History
In the 1930s, Austrian born Franz Scherr envisioned building an attraction where birds would "fly free". He rented twenty acres of hammock land for $ 25.00 per year and started developing the tourist attraction that would become Parrot Jungle. The site was later developed as Pinecrest Gardens! #pinecrest #miami
Pinecrest Gardens is a lush paradise featuring tropical plants, rock formations and water features -- truly living up to its reputation as a hidden treasure. The garden contains approximately 4.3 acres of native forested wetland, with about 3.3 acres of tropical hardwood hammock and one acre of native cypress slough hammock.
