Cylinder Vases

Wheel thrown porcelain vases with whimsical designs: patches, bamboo, doodle, branch and leaf, and roses. The surface of each vase is hand carved through a layer of black slip to create a contrasting and textural surface, using a technique known as sgraffito. Each piece is unique. Size and design may vary slightly from image shown. Signed on the bottom.

So for today's casual lunch it is a blue and white theme. As always,it is a mix and match collection of yard sale or thrift finds. This is called Rose Brocade by Skye McGhie. And this pattern by the same maker is Rhapsody. Some sweet treats to go with our tea. Blue and white always looks so fresh and pretty. Another little teapot. A vintage blue and…

My work is a lot about surface decoration. And a well-crafted canvas to put the pattern on is essential to my creativity. There is something extraordinary with the three dimensions of a pot; the inside and the outside surfaces give the possibility of storytelling that a two-dimensional canvas cannot.

'Down by the sea' - 2014

Collection of vessels and tile panels made for 'Down by the sea', 28th March - 05th April, at New Craftsman, St Ives. New Craftsman St Ives presents a showcase of vibrant works by one of Cornwall’s best loved and most recognisable ceramic artists.
