The 'komse' is a Saami cradle made of wood, reindeer skin, strings and wooven ribbons. In the cradle the child is carefully wrapped in cloths and fine leather of reindeer calf skin or hare skin. The infant is resting on a base of white moss or long, soft reindeer skin from the neck hairs of reindeer, and the dried tinder from decayed birch. The child can be out in extreme cold weather without feeling cold.
