WEEK 1. I am an architect and urban planner from Barcelona. Barcelona is a compacted city because of its natural borders. It is also a human scale city because of its historical multi centrality organization. Finally, it has a unique morphology because of the Pla Cerdà.
WEEK 7. I have transformed an existing residential area into a new offices area. Maintaing the same plots structure I have adjusted the public space and the buildings to the new activity.
WEEK 6. I have chosen a block located in my neighborhood that has an empty plot. I have done a shadow analysis of the whole block in three different cases: leaving the free plot, building a house with the same height as the other existing buildings and putting an extremely high building.
WEEK 5. I have chosen an uninviting street inside my neighborhood. It has an over-prioritisation of traffic and a problem with tourism. My proposal consists of re-organizing the street section. On one hand, I propose to create wider sidewalks an distribute better pedestrians and tourists. On the other hand, I reduce car surface parkings by creating a new underground parking.
WEEK 4. I have chosen the road and transport flow in my city. Barcelona has a big pollution problem. The streets prioritize the cars and the city is becoming unfriendly. Its citizens are starting to migrate to the countryside. My proposal consists on creating some streets with car priority and other streets with bicycle and people priority. In this way we will reduce the pollution, the city will become friendlier and we will strengthen sustainable mobility.
WEEK 3. The new rowing course is located near Barcelona. It has good accessibility because is connected to the existing roads and the existing path along the Llobregat river. It adapts to the existing landscapes because it follows the guidelines of the crops, the river and the roads.
WEEK 2. The public good I have chosen to analyze is the Passeig Sant Joan Boulevard, located in Barcelona.
