The “Making a 1920s Bathroom Look a Little Vintage Again” Makeover
Project by: Molly Location: Chicago My husband and I bought our 1920’s condo in Chicago because it had a ton of space, and it was essentially a blank canvas. On the one hand, we were excited that it was not super upgraded with a bunch of trendy finishes that were not our style, but on the other, it meant that the place had literally zero historic character because it had been gutted in 2000.

Union Station tile work
We waited in line at Union Station for three hours to vote on Election Day. (My ballot was damaged and I was with people who had lost their ballots, so we had to vote in person even though Washington State is a "vote by mail" state now.) This gave a lot of time to take pictures of the beautiful building. I loved the tilework on the floors. So many hex tiles and square tiles. And very shiny.

But then it gets all chilly, wet and windy and you obviously don’t spend that much time outside and probably meet your friends somewhere warm, for example – in some cozy restaurant for a lunch. Today, in…

Tailor and habit maker, Putney
The tailor and habit maker may be long gone but the attractive if rather sober mosaic survives to this day. Somehow the overall shape reminds me of the patterns used by tailors to create suits and other garments. Location: Upper Richmond Road / Picture taken on: 15/08/2008
