In Serbia pie is very present on the table. Žito is a boiled wheat berry dessert which is used liturgically in the Eastern Orthodox Churches and Eastern Catholic Churches.  This Serbian version uses  walnuts, raisins and almonds.  Loaded with the symbolism of life, death, harvest and renewal, it's presented at only a few special occasions: Slava, Bozic (BOH-zheech, or Christmas), and at funerals and memorials for the dead.
