ULTIMATE Garage Organizer | ULTIMATE Garage Organizer | By Modern Builds | Is your garage or workshop a little cluttered? Looking for an inexpensive and simple solution? Well, Mike Montgomery from Modern Builds has you covered building? The ultimate garage storage solution? Out of some two by fours, a little MDF and some particle board. Starting by building the base frames out of two by four for his shelving. Quickly put together, always checking to ensure the corners are perfect 90° and then two of the many eight foot two by four legs attached. They'll help to stand it up. An additional pair helping to brace the piece. Everything marked out in advance on the wall making it simple like a road map to follow. And that scrap or extra two by four as a brace coming in just as handy as an extra set of hands holding things in place and then might use the initial shelf along with that brace piece to ensure the shelf was level and continued in a straight line. Of course with all these shelves always be looking to tie into studs whenever you can to add durability otherwise not a good idea to add too much weight to something like this. A few eight foot legs added on the outside and then it was time to start building smaller shelves and smaller platforms on one side as a pair of shelves another larger shelf in the middle as the workstation and the same process repeated. Pre-drilling the holes connecting each of the shelf connections with deck screws and additional support even added for that workstation in case a little extra weight, some extra machinery was added. On the right side in the corner resting on the trim the base for the closet raised to keep mice out and even a side wall to be installed of some particle board to keep the work space and hanging space separate. A dowel used as well after spade bit drilled a couple holes to create some hanging space. When it came to making the shelves some of the spaces were already the perfect size for those eight foot sheets like the work space itself. The rest another money saving tip might just use the scraps. Cutting them to be true and then quickly screwing them into place. There's that divider now. Keeping anything hanging from getting tangled in anything being worked with and keeping all that dust away from whatever's hanging. From there it was time to illuminate the entire thing connecting some inexpensive LEDs and then on to the rest of the electronics. First up, a freezer wheeled in and then around that, some additional shelves built. Just like the initial ones. Holes pre-drilled, kept in line with the initial shelves and some additional support laid on. For those shelves though, MDF. Now, or those sliding barn doors that will cover the closet and also cover up the fridge or depending on your design, may be some of the other storage space. Electrical conduit used along with a few fasteners and washers as spacers then run through and to support it in the middle an additional screw laid in there as well as a coupler. And in the end it would be a fantastic rail for these sliding barn doors of MDF but that MDF would be hanging off some of this. And that is sheet aluminum. Easily cut. A couple of holes drilled into it that'll need to be transferred to the doors to match and then some nuts and bolts also run through them to run along those rails. Those need to be secured. Make sure they are. They're going to be holding on to the doors and the rails. Don't want those falling down on anything you're working on or you for that matter. For an awesome finish, Mike went and used chalkboard paint. Something you could easily write on, make notes, remind yourself of something once low in the fridge, what needs to be worked on next, may be even some measurements. And once the bra were tested and installed. Check that out. A nice smooth run along those rails. You can cover up what you need to. And move it with ease. The last addition such a practical addition that's pegboard for that. Some wood backing. To support it and leave space for the hooks to sink into. Once that was set and screwed into place and spacer wood used at the bottom and it was simply screwed into the wall. Now all those tools can be transferred up there. And with that you have completed the ultimate garage storage solution.
