Zouave Jacket - 146th New York. In the winter of 1863 after receiving the zouave status, the commander of the 146th NYSV Col. Kenner Garrard designed his unit's new uniforms. While most zouave based their uniforms of French Zouaves with the traditional blue jacket and red pantaloons, his new Zouave uniform was based upon the 'Tirailleurs Algerians' or Turcos of the French army.
