Tibouchina

Tibouchina, or Princess Flower, has large beautiful leaves. The bracts covering the flower buds are deep red, but the gorgeous flower that emerges is purple. The plant grows into a small tree, and is well adapted to the climate in San Francisco. Where I live, the winters are bit colder than in San Francisco, and the tree is sometimes damaged by winter freezes. The tree does quite well in my wife's home town of Bogotá, Colombia, where it is called "Siete Cueros".
