Frans Hals, 1580 - 1666 was a Dutch painter from the Southern Netherlands and lived and died in Haarlem. Hals was one of the greatest "Golden Age" painters in the Netherlands, well known by his realistic portrets and is notable for his loose painterly brushworks. 15 of his children were babtized.
