For Two Penny Chinese restaurant, Sarah Ward Interiors drew inspiration from 1920s Shanghai, a period distinctive for blending traditional Chinese architecture and streamlined Art Deco. A classic art deco color palette of teal and dusty rose is used with sumptuous velvets and textured leathers.
Adaptive reuse transformed this former clothing store—built in a stolid neoclassicism known in Kiev, Ukraine, as “Stalin Empire”—into a stage set for Nam Modern Vietnamese Cuisine, a 6,000-square-foot restaurant by Yod Design Lab.
