classroom desks with the words how to ditch the desks and take on tables

Looking at an elementary classroom without desks At the end of last year I made the plunge and switched from student desks to tables. Our supportive principal gave the options to teachers to trade out their student desks with tables from the county warehouse. My teammates thought I was crazy. The number one question that […]

Here is my classroom at a glance. I have 4 large rectangle tables where my students sit. You can't see it, but on the left hand corner is my small group reading table and students cubbies are lined up alongside that wall.

I can’t believe I’m writing this post… I REALLY can’t believe I’m already back in the swing of all things SCHOOL. I decided to keep my same Farmhouse Flair Neon theme this year. the classroom is organized with tables and instead of desks, it's easy to organize

After some long days and hard work I am happy to say that my new room is finally ready for the school year! I moved up a level and I have to say, the switch was really nice (and I have windows now!) It's amazing how much harder it is to find the time to get in to work on it once you have a one-year old! But alas, here it is! I'll work around the room counter-clockwise starting at my desk. Let me know what you think! Here's the whole room looking in from the door. I made the choice to go with…

I have been absolutely overwhelmed and blessed with the amount of support I've gotten from readers this past year. So many of you have reached out about my classroom and asked questions or decor advice. You have given me the experience of a lifetime! I feel it's important that you know before continuing on that it truly takes a village to create my classroom each year. Behind the scenes there are many people who come together to make this possible. Friends and family members help me…

a classroom filled with lots of desks and colorful rugs on the floor in front of them

Another down side to being a new teacher is not having a permanent classroom. In my last post I explained that my classroom is an added classroom. We have such large enrollment numbers at my school that we have 5 Kindergarten classrooms! So, with that being said, I also have the smallest of the 5 classrooms. My classroom isn't even technically a classroom. But, that's fine by me! While everyone else has wall to wall carpet (yuck!), I have a nice tiled floor. The room is a lot brighter and…

an empty classroom with desks and chairs

Education looks very different today then it did 100, 50 and even 10 years ago. The days of quiet classrooms, full of students in tidy rows, sitting at attention while the teacher lectured at the blackboard have been replaced with more collaborative styles involving a multitude of teaching methods. If you walk into a c
