I personally do not recommend lofting your bed all the way. If there isn't enough space in your dorm, a half loft will give you plenty of space. Lofting your bed above the provided drawer set (about 3 ft) will give you so much more space. A small stepladder makes it so much easier to get in and out of bed. And as for bed rails, leave them! Just trust me on this one. You can decorate them with ribbon, string lights, or wash tape.
