The steamship Carpathia became famous when her crew rescued 700 survivors from the Titanic disaster but within four years she too was at the bottom of the ocean.

The Lusitania was sunk by German torpedoes on May 7th, 1915.  She took just 18 minutes to go under. 1200 perished.  Of that number 128 were Americans.
