Unfortunately where I live floating the river, and kayaking in particular, had become the "in" thing to do, and to buy a used kayak was almost as expensive as a new one. When building a cedar strip canoe, red cedar strips are one of the larger components of the total material cost. This is an estimate of the cost for red cedar strips.

A strip-planked kayak is a more involved project than a stitch-and-glue design, but a CLC kit makes it a rewarding process. We will send you computer-cut molds, a strongback, precision-milled bead-and-cove cedar strips, and everything else you'll need except for varnish and a paddle.

Kayak models, 24" long, cedar strip hull, mahogany, walnut and white pine strip decks. Built using the traditional methods of strip-built kayaks, finished with marine spar varnish.
