Moon map by Donald A. MacRae. This image was found on an old astronomy book and digitally enhaced. This illustration of the lunar surface identifies certain brands, plains, volcanoes and craters. Galileo Galilei was able to distinguish two different surface regions. In the dark regions called "mares" are named as the Sea of Serenity and the Sea of Fertility, are plains with few craters.
