55 gallon drum chicken waterer

55 gallon drum chicken coop. Big enough for 2 hens and small enough to keep warm in the winter. Right now we have 2 hens about to start laying and the lamp is removed for summer. The lid of the drum is at the back and so its very easy to clean. Only thing I would change about my design is the stand- the plywood is not weather proof so I might make a new stand this summer. #backyardchickens #reuse

I heated and pressed a PVC pipe around the neck of the 5 gallon container to support the weight because the waterer sides were too weak. Remove top of broken waterer to stabilize 5 gal tank (3 gal max fill). Then, I drilled a hole in the PVC pipe barely below the red lip level. As the water level drops below the hole in the PVC pipe, water runs out. Add pingpong ball to easily monitor water level. An upsidedown Mason jar in an upsidedown frisbee works, too.
