On my way in to school this morning, IT SNOWED! Well...it "snowed" Tennessee style. It looked like a blizzard of dandruff bits but for us in the South, that means a lot! It put me in the mood for all things winter and so I thought I'd put together a list of my Top Ten Favorite Winter Art Lessons. If you follow the link on each of these, you'll find a video for most and a lesson for all. Let's go! SNOW GLOBE CITIES! This lesson was a hit with my fourth graders last year. They really loved…

I found this easy little hand art project on theforestroom last week and thought it would be a clean and a simple project to do in my daughter's 3rd grade class... Simple Instructions: With a pencil, trace your hand & fingers perpendicular (or exactly vertical) to the paper. Start at the top of the paper…

Last month, 3rd grade started this little project, after I was inspired by the Instagram post of the incredible art teacher, Ms. Rogers! You can check out her IG here! I believe they painted their backgrounds, but since we're still art on a cart this year, we had to improvise! Here's how we created ours! Materials: Pencils Hexagon tracer Crayons Sharpie Markers Crayola Oil pastels Day 1: We draw our bees together. I do a little directed drawing, then we trace with Sharpies, and color with…

Fox in Snow. This project was inspired by Jon Klassen's work of the same name. We studied the negative space that the tree trunks made, especially when intersected by shadows. The color palette was intentionally stark. Individually and as a class set, the images were striking in their simplicity.
