Burt Munro, 68-year-old native of New Zealand and now a resident in San Gabriel, California, poses in the 1920 Indian Scout motorcycle on August 4, 1966, which he plans to ride at the Bonneville Salt Flats in an attempt to break the world motorcycle speed record. Munro has spent five years designing and building an aluminum streamlined shell to house the cycle and himself. (AP Photo)
Burt Munro at Home
This photograph was taken in Burt Munro’s garage in 1970, in his hometown of Invercargill, New Zealand. Burt’s under 1000cc world record, which he set in Bonneville on the 26th August 1967 still stands today. If that isn’t amazing enough he set the record on a 1920 Indian Scout after spending 20 years in the above pictured garage modifying it.
