As we can see here the author used biblical comparison. She used the three kings day to make the reader emphasize the changes of moving to a new country. And how the day of the three kings is something she has in her culture and Hispanic heritage people can emphasis. But now it's different in the United States.
"...days before Christmas, and my parents had already told my brother and, me that since we were in Los Estados now, we would get our presents on December 25 instead of Los Reyes, Three Kings Day, when gifts are exchanged in Puerto Rico" ( Ortiz Cofer 435).
" I wish I was anything but eleven, because I want today to be far away already, far away like a runaway balloon, like a tiny o in the sky, so tiny you have to close your eyes to see it " (Cisneros 2). As we can see from this text Sandra Cisneros is self-conscious. She likes to express and reflect upon things, but all in her head. She's reserved and feels sad, today she's eleven and suppose to be older but she still a girl that can't stand up for herself.
"Maybe because I’m skinny, maybe because she doesn’t like me, that stupid Sylvia Saldivar says..." As we can see from this Sylvia has probably described Sandra Cisneros in the past. Sandra Cisneros says she's skinny because everyone else says it and she probably knows it also.
" "That's not, I don't, you're not... Not mine," I finally say in a little voice that was maybe me when I was four." (Cisneros 1) With this quote one can see that Sandra Cisneros is timid and shy. She's reserved and really quiet but. Which shows her personality as a reserved girl.
