Masquerade cult or group is a subculture that is exclusively masculine. It is a group within the community that guards the identity of men and masquerade. They promote traditions and customs. This group believes that dead ancestors in form of masquerades crawl out of holes in the ground when called upon. To be a member of this group, the individual must be a male citizen, must be initiated through series of rituals, must be of a certain age, must be brave.
Akpoko spirit: This is the uliest of all masquerades.like the Ijele, this masquerade is lead by the older adults of the masquerade cult. It is among the most powerful masquerades of all time.ugly, tragic to behold, and has supernatural powers.
The Grand Spirit: This is Ijele, the king of all masquerades known for its large size, slow movement, colorful out-fit, and superior mystical powers. In the past, it had 45 masquerade perform on top of its head. This masquerade is exclusively led by older adults while the young adults watch from a distance.
Ojionu: the water spirit.This masquerade is the opposite of the Iga spirit. Ojionu also trails during the day time, but it is a chaotic masquerade who breaks rules and overrule instructions. It most at times carry canes which it whip people with.
