5/14/1970. Night of Tear gas. Kent State: Never Forget - BATS N’ HATS - To make matters worse, I discovered that police from all over the area had been brought in for reinforcements. These folks rarely had contact with students and were even more poorly trained than the Athens PD. It wasn’t a good thing to see everyone decked out in full “bats ‘n hats” riot gear with gas masks. I don’t think I had ever seen Athens PD use gas before.
The Kent State Massacre - A video history of the events that ended that fateful day May 4, 1970 at Kent State University in Ohio with the taking of the lives of four unarmed students. It was included in his 2004 album The Revolution Will Not Be Amplified.
Kent State shootings were shootings of unarmed college students protesting Vietnam War at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, by members of Ohio National Guard on May 4, 1970, 29 guardsmen fired approximately 67 rounds over period of 13 secs & wounding 9 others. Hundreds of universities, colleges, & high schools closed throughout US due to student strike of 4 million students. Grand jury indicted 8 of guardsmen, but charges were dismissed for lack of evidence.
