A Pratt & Whitney R-2800-39 18-cylinder radial airplane engine. First run in 1937, over 125,000 of these were built in all variants, and saw extensive service in World War II combat, then in civilian airplanes for years afterward. The R-2800 weighed about 2,400 pounds and developed a maximum 2,000 horsepower, giving it a weight-to-power ratio of nearly 1-1. US bomber B-24 Liberator of USAAF 465th Bomber Group after crash landing in the Poltava airfield, Ukraine, Jan 4, 1945. Poltava was the main airfield of Operation Frantic, a USAAF "shuttle bombing" operation sending bombers to hit German targets and then land in locations in the USSR. This system extended the range of US bombing significantly. The operation though fizzled out because of Russian underlying hostility and refusal to protect the Frantic bases adequately.
The P25H like the Mosquito fighter bomber had significant firepower added. It had 8*.50 machine guns and a 75mm cannon. The fuselage had to be strenghened to withstand the firepower.
