Branch Weaving: Branch weaving is sort of a combination of yarn bombing (which I would love to do someday on a massive scale) and a dream catcher. It is different and fun to be able to bring an item from nature into the home as an art piece. I first saw branch wea…
Weave Experiments || Stick Weaving | The Weaving Loom
I have been admiring stick weaves for a while now and I finally decided to try it out. This is also really great for those who want to get into weaving, but don’t own a loom just yet. It’s a perfect free loom to play around on. I really like the rough texture of the stick next to the soft woven textures of yarn. And it wasn’t too hard to make either. My boys magically find sticks everywhere outside, so I enlisted their help for this project. We almost got all the way to the end of our walk…
Joan Baxter Weaving So who is Joan Baxter? I was born in Edinburgh and went to Edinburgh College of Art in 1972. I discovered tapestry weaving there and gained my Diploma and Post Diploma qualifications in tapestry. Having seen tapestries from Eastern Europe that were completely different from what was being made in Scotland, I decided to try to do some further post-graduate study there. Stick- or Branch weaving is the new craft descending on blog posts and Pinterest. Not much is needed for it, a nice v-shaped branch, some wool or yarn and off you go. This is the result of my first attempt on branch weaving. It was not easy to do, the warp was slipping and twisting, and I wanted to give up in the middle of the work, but I am glad I did not. It is beautiful, it even has an artistic touch. I used variegated wool in autumn colors - after all it is October! :-)
