Originally, the oriental circlet was made for Queen Victoria in 1853, by Garrards, with Prince Albert over-seeing the project. He had a great interest in tiaras and designed several for his wife and the Strawberry leaf tiara for his daughter, Princess Alice. Though in this original form the piece was set with opals, later to be re-set with rubies by Queen Alexandra.
