FREE Topic Sentences Activity! I wrote eight short paragraphs and taped them each to a bag. Then, groups went around the room and wrote topic sentences for each of the paragraphs. They put their sentences in the bags, and later we pulled them out and read the huge variety of topic sentences that they had written. It was a super successful lesson, and it connected well with our main idea reading skill, too!

Topic Sentences

Identify the main topic of a multiparagraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text. I will use as a group activity to identify main idea topic sentences.

Interactive Writing Notebook for First Grade - First Grade Centers and More. First lesson is topic sentence with two reason sentences; progresses to 3 reason sentences; then includes a closing sentence as the year progresses.

This is a great activity to put in an interactive notebook. Students are able to work on their opinion writing piece by piece.
