RMS Mauretania during WW I. The boat is painted, as many were in both world wars, in Dazzle or Razzle Dazzle camoflague. The idea was to disorient attacking U-boats, the paint job supposedly making it hard to determine the target vessel's type and course.

RMS Mauretania. she had her maiden voyage in 1907 and held the Blue Riband for speed for a record 20 years. She worked as transport and hospital ship during WW1 and during her long caree at sea made 269 double crossings of the Atlantic. Her last crossing was in 1934 and the ship was broken up the following year.

RMS Mauretania was launched on 28 July 1938 at the Cammell Laird yard in Birkenhead, England and was completed in May 1939. Inheriting the proud name from the first RMS Mauretania of 1906, the second Mauretania was the first ship built for the newly formed Cunard White Star company following the merger in April 1934 of the Cunard and White Star lines.
