This sacred book from Mayan culture, the Popol Vuh's prominent features are its creation myth, its diluvian suggestion, its epic tales of the Hero Twins Hunahpú and Xbalanqué and its genealogies. This sacred book was perhaps written in hieroglyphic characters. The stories of the Popol Vuh had to be passed along orally. In 1558, the Popol Vuh was written down by a native who learned how to write the Mayan tongue using Latin characters.

David Deal demonstrates a verse by verse correspondence between creolized Phoenician and Hebrew phrases of the Torah. The Mayan’s sacred book, the ‘Popol Vuh’ (book of the community), starts with a creation story that closely mirrors that of the Old Testament. It goes on to tell of a migration of the people across a sea that was split such that they were able to walk dry shod. http://www.martincwiner.com/extensive-semitic-presence-documented-in-pre-columbian-america/

Popol Vuh is a corpus of mytho-historical narratives of the Post Classic K'iche' kingdom in Guatemala's western highlands. The title translates more literally as "Book of the People". Popol Vuh's prominent features are its creation myth, its diluvian suggestion, its epic tales of the hero twins Hunahpú and Xbalanqué, and its genealogies. The myth begins with the exploits of anthropomorphic ancestors and concludes with a regnal genealogy, perhaps as an assertion of rule by divine right.

Mayans used hieroglyphics to keep written history over time. These hieroglyphics has helped historians learn a lot about the Maya like the fact that they believed in human sacrifice. Mayans considered being sacrificed to their gods an honor.
