Orion's Belt is the constellation with a belt. Run an imaginary line across the middle star in the belt and find Betelgeuse. Run the line down thru the mid-star of the Belt to the right and there is Rigel.
Its brightest stars are Beta (Rigel -- leg to our right) and Alpha (Betelgeuse -- shoulder to the left), a blue-white and a red supergiant respectively. This image is helpful to see just how reddish Betelgeuse is.
It's the earliest known stone circle at Nabta Playa in Egypt's Western Desert is thought to act as a calendar with markers corresponding to the stars in Orion's belt. It was constructed around 7000 BC. Man was made intelligent
pan-afrikan-education: Topographical view: Orions belt aligned with the Giza pyramids of KMT/Egypt. This alignment wasn’t by accident. Our Ancestors had precise knowledge of astronomy and the star systems.
The famous Horsehead Nebula is about light-years from Earth, in the constellation Orion. The nebula is located just to the south of the star Alnitak, which is farthest east on Orion's Belt, and is part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.
Astrophotograph of Orion's Belt, its three main stars being (from left to right) Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka. Mintaka is a binary star, two stars orbiting around a common center of mass. The stars complete one orbit around each other every days.
